The Entity Called Pre-Diabetes

I need to get somethings outlined to get us started.
We should have heard about blood sugar concentration, this is the amount of sugar (glucose) present in the blood.
There is the normal value of blood sugar, there's a value that defines diabetes and there's the "in between" (Pre-Diabetic).

The normal value of blood sugar level is 3.5 - 5.5 mmoI/L (Fasting glucose level). A diagnosis of diabetes mellitus is made when the fasting glucose is 7.0 mmoI/L or Random glucose is 11.1 mmoI/L. That leaves a gap(5.5-7mmol/L) which indicates the Pre-Diabetic State.
"Pre-Diabetes is a condition that occurs when a person's blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus".
This state is a journey to full blown diabetes and cardiovascular pathologies, but the good news is that it can be arrested and reverted back to normal without the use of drugs.

A simple modification in lifestyle is all that's necessary to save a person from a lifetime of swallowing pills.
  • Healthy Meals - Rich in vegetables and fibre, low in saturate fat, sugars.
  • Exercise - (30-45min of exercise a day).
  • Reduce Excessive Alcohol Intake, Drink More Water.
  • Reduce Weight - This is pivotal as obesity is one of the major causes of Pre-Diabetes study has shown that there is 16% reduction in diabetes risk for every kilogram of weight loss.
Are there people at higher risk of developing Pre-Diabetes? Yes.
  • Overweight Or Obesed.
  • Hypertensive.
  • Women who had gestational diabetes.
  • Person's with family history of diabetes.

This entity has no distinct sign or symptoms.
So it's important that you get your blood sugar level checked today and if you find out that you're PRE-DIABETIC, Don't panic, Take the steps outlined above, you should be fine. But for further enquiry email me on lifelinewithdrdee@gmail.com.
